Shannen Dohertygot emotional on the red carpet Sunday night while discussing herBeverly Hills, 90210costarLuke Perry‘s reported stroke.

The 47-year-old actress — who played Perry’s love interest on the 1990s show — was attending The Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation’s Compassion Project Gala in Los Angeles when she broke into tears, reflecting on Perry’s condition.

“I love him, and he’s going to be great,” Doherty said, adding that she has reached out to Perry. “I will not talk about how he’s doing because it’s between the two of us.”

Perry, 52, was hospitalized on Feb. 27 after paramedics were dispatched to theRiverdalestar’s home in Sherman Oaks, California,according to TMZ. The call reportedly came into the fire department for someone suffering a stroke. As of March 1, Perry was still hospitalized, his rep confirmed to PEOPLE. His current condition is unclear.

Doherty was one of the first stars to post about Perry, sharing a caption-less Instagram of the two hugging during their time on the teen drama together.

“None of us are up here today without Shannen,” Perry said in at theBeverly Hills, 90210reunion at REwind Con in November 2016. “She’s been through a lot. She’s not doing well right now but sometimes her contributions are minimized.”

“She’s been thrown under the bus,” he continued. “I’ve been accused of driving it. But she’s a very big part of the success of this show. She taught me a lot. I’m glad she was my scene partner. She was great at what she did in the character with me.”

News of Perry’s hospitalization came hours after Foxannounced aBeverly Hills, 90210reboot. Though his original costars Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth, Gabrielle Carteris, Brian Austin Green,Tori Spellingand Ziering have all signed on to the new project, Perry did not.

Perry currently stars as Archie’s (KJ Apa) dad, Fred Andrews, on the CW’sRiverdale. According to TMZ, he had been shooting episodes recently in L.A. on the Warner Bros. lot. (Riverdale‘s main set is in Vancouver, Canada.)
