Courtiers then looked back toQueen Elizabeth’s first State Opening of Parliament as sovereign in 1952.

In another fashion footnote, Queen Elizabeth also wore the Diamond Diadem for the first time at the first State Opening of Parliament of her reign. Queen Elizabeth would wear the headpiece again on the way to her coronation at Westminster Abbey in June 1953.

It’s not required for the heir to the throne to attend the State Opening of Parliament, and the Prince of Wales, 41, is in Singapore for a major event of his own: the 2023Earthshot Prize Awards. Prince William arrived in Singapore on Sunday for the inaugural Earthshot Week and had a packed day of engagements on Monday before the glamorous prize ceremony on Tuesday.
