20 yr ago , Mark Holmgren crashed on a minibike , tearing the nerve in his shoulder and bequeath his ripe arm numb and immovable . Initially , he desire the injured arm could be fixed . As the years draw on , however , his mind turned to other possibilities .

Swift enlisted a colony of flesh - eating beetles to clean the arm before bleaching the bones , CBC News report .
