Social media can make celebrities out of the most unconvincing people . Or , in some cases , the most unlikely of beast . Such was the causa with Patrick the Wombat , who died yesterday at the age of 32 . And his fans have take to Facebook toexpress their heartbreak .
“ My wife and I are heartbroken . We had planned a trip from the US to Australia at the end of this year to see Patrick , ” one commenter say on Facebook . “ It ’s a pity we did n’t get the perquisite to encounter him . You guys did an awing job like for him all these years . We love you Patrick . ”
Patrick live in the Ballarat Wildlife Park in Victoria , Australia and was the old wombat in captivity in the man — roughly 130 in human age . Not only was he the old , he was the heaviest , tiptoe the scales at roughly 88 pounds during his fattest period . Patrick was also a virgin .
“ I ’m so sorry to hear this , ” another Facebook commenter said . “ With all the nonsense and tragedy that social medium impart into our lives each day , he made mine so much serious . My sincere condolence to all of you . He will be greatly missed . ”
The Ballarat Wildlife Park announced Patrick ’s deathon Facebook , which has become a memorial page of sorts for the fabled wombat :
It is with sadness and sonorous hearts that Greg Parker and all the staff are mourn the loss of our bucky toothed Patrick the Wombat .
Patrick the Wombat came to the park as an orphan after his female parent was hit by a car and was heighten by Greg and his phratry .
He has adjoin the hearts of many mass around the World .
At nearly 32 years of age he was recognize as the honest-to-god Bare - nosed Wombat in the World .
Patrick was environ by those who know and cared for him when he guide away peacefully .
We would wish to thank all his booster and following who have loved him and supported him as well as his Keepers who have lovingly care for him over the age .
Everyone will dearly miss Patrick and the park plans to erect a lasting memorial at the park to observe him .

The wildlife park would regularly post photos of Patrick , which was the highlight of many people ’s day .
