Here ’s a beautiful mystifying look at a full - field view of the Lagoon Nebula ( M8 , NGC 6523 ) and the Trifid Nebula ( M20 , NGC 6514 ) along with star clustering M21 and genius form region NGC6559 . Amateur uranologist and astrophotographer Terry Hancock from Michigan says this is one of his favorite fields of sight to observe .
However right now its very low in my southerly sky and therefore limited to a duet of hour each dark . Just wait until next month , and this region will be higher in the sky for better northern hemisphere regard .
Terry captured this survey in H - Alpha plus RGB over 4 night .

I ’ll countenance him explain the view :
“ Both of these objects are intensely rich with HII regions . ripe of center is The Lagoon Nebula , a elephantine emission Nebula and HII region , bottom shopping center can be check the star topology shape region NGC6559 , these are estimated at 4,000 to 6,000 light years from us in the constellation Sagittarius .
Upper leave behind in this image can be visualise M20 or NGC 6514 cognise as The Trifid Nebula also in the configuration of Sagittarius and lies at a aloofness of close to 5000 light years from us .

Just a really stunning “ cryptical and wide ” view of this region of the sky . See more of Terry ’s work at his web site , The Down Under Observatory(he ’s originally from Australia ) or onFlickrorGoogle + .
