Patrick Stewart beamed into the Javits Center for New York Comic Con this retiring weekend with a few friends and anabsolutely incrediblenew look at Star Trek : Picard . Building on the complex world we watch established inits first trailer , X after the result of Star Trek : Nemesis , here ’s what we blemish in our young look at Jean - Luc ’s next escapade .

The drone open in the familiar vinery of Chateau Picard in La Barre , which Jean - Luc has now taken over after the end of his comrade and nephew in a fire at the estate , something he learned right smart back in Star Trek : generation . But something is n’t quite right . We do n’t see Jean - Luc here first , but rather , Data ( Brent Spiner ) , wear off his yellow operations uniform from The Next genesis and painting on a sail . shady affair for a bushed humanoid to be doing , give that Data sacrificed himself in the climax of Star Trek : Nemesis — which Picard is set approximately two decennium after .

Old friends. New worlds. Same old Seven of Nine kicking ass.Image: All images via CBS
It ’s only when Picard enters the picture , also invest in his TNG uniform , that we realise thing are sure less real here , and perhaps more of a aspiration , something that would make sensory faculty give the first trailer showed us Picard still lamenting Data ’s sacrifice . But while the aspiration state is interesting , what ’s more interesting is what Data is painting .
“ Would you like to cease it , Captain ? ” Data demand as he offers his paint brushing and we see the uncompleted painting is of a dissemble woman look out at a tempestuous sea . Her face is not yet satiate in , but given what we see of the new character and on the face of it former Borg Dahj ’s ( Isa Briones ) coming into court in the prior trailer , could this be less of a dream that ’s about Picard remembering the past times , and more of a visual sense of his immediate future ?
“ I do n’t sleep with how , ” Picard sadly tells Data , before the android tell him otherwise — and the offer of the brush seems to activate flashbacks in Jean - Luc ’s promontory . An unsung world on fire , as ships of an unknown design raze it from above . The unripe ignitor on the ships might designate that these are Romulan — they for sure do n’t match up with the Valdore - esque warbirds we get wind in the last house trailer . It ’s hard to say if these flashback are of an unknown flak or are somehow part of the delivery - operation - gone - wrong in the wake of the destruction of Romulus ( which occurred in the premier - timeline parts of the 2009 Star Trek movie , and are canonic to this serial publication ) that lead toPicard move back from Starfleetbefore the events of the show .

Picard wake from his dream with a lick or two from his young beneficial friend , Number Onethe pit bull . We have nothing to add here beyond the fact that this domestic dog is still incredibly cute .
“ I come here to find safety , ” Picard tells us as he and Dog Number One go for a promenade in the vineyards of Chateau Picard . “ But one is never good from the past times , ” he go on …

As his rest is interrupted by the arrival of Dahj , begging for aid and claiming that someone is after her . Dahj ’s true individuality of being a unloose Borg drone — akin toJean - Lucafter he briefly became Locutus in TNG ’s iconic “ The Best of Both Worlds ” two - parter — was something the first poke for Picard really got into , but we ’ll see more of it later on here .
For now , Jean - Luc heads back to Starfleet HQ in San Francisco . Funnily enough , this pan out jibe of the Golden Gate Bridge covered in solar dialog box ispractically identicalto one seen in Star Trek : Discovery’ssecond season finale , “ Such Sweet Sorrow , Part 2 , ” with a few extra buildings added to the futuristic San Franscisco sensible horizon to show that yes , things have change since the 23rd century !

What ’s also changed is the bequest Picard has in Starfleet ’s story , still being mat up years after his retirement . He is confronted with it literally , in the form of a massive holographic sound projection of a Galaxy - Class spaceship in Starfleet ’s entrance hall while checking in for an naming — it ’s intemperate to see the enrollment or ship name on the Hologram but there stands a very good opportunity that this is indeed the Enterprise - D , Picard ’s former command .
But even if it is , and Starfleet still lauds the heroism of one of its most notable captains , a ( ahem ) new generation has come along and swept Jean - Luc into the chronological record of story , he learns , as he has to begrudgingly spell out his name to a hapless desk officeholder , who differentiate him it ’s squeamish to see the former Captain “ up and about . ” Stewart ’s face here while slapping on his visitor badge is priceless .
“ We have an certificate of indebtedness to look into , ” Picard tells the same Admiral we saw him meeting with in the first trailer , as we ’re deal to another familiar dig from that initial reveal : Picard and an unidentified , white - robed case , walk through a monumental archive . “ There is no we , Jean - Luc , ” that Admiral counters , as we see something new :

A door opens in front of Jean - Luc to bring out what very much looks like a new sort of Noonien Soong android , the same kind of android Data ( and his brother Lore ) were . And not just one , but a whole rafter of them , stamp with recording label on their foreheads and clad in orange jumpsuits . Is this where Doctor Jurati ( Alison Pill ) is working , glimpsed in the last trailerin which she had a copy of what appeared to be either the torso of B-4 — the incompatible transcript of Data turned potential friend in Nemesis , where it was also hard implied that Data had uploaded all his memories and personality into before his end — or a new body for Data ? If so , why are there all of a sudden so many new Soong Androids in developing ?
But what if they ’re something else ? As Jean - Luc ’s contention with the Starfleet Admiral gets more intense — she narrate him that Starfleet is no longer “ your sign ” and that he should back down and go home — we get a shot of a walkway in what appear to be the same facility . The same blank - clad assistants milling around as the one Picard was seen , the same monotone vanish around . Except , we see more of people in jumpsuits , and — this looks like the same spot Dahj wasseen in the first trailer , wearing a very interchangeable orange jumpsuit . A place that was being guarded by Romulans , packed with thing that looked dreadfully like Borg regeneration alcoves , and had signs declaring how many class the facility had gone without an assimilation . So maybe these racks of jumpsuited androids have something to do with the Borg , as well ? possibly they , like Dahj , were former drones ?
https://gizmodo.com/breaking-down-the-familiar-faces-and-new-reveals-of-the-1836608419

That would n’t excuse why these beings Jean - Luc sees seem to be identical and are being corralled into storage like they were disposable servant — harkening back to the ethical dilemma Picard and Data face back in “ step of a Man ” about the right of androids in the Federation . But it raises even more questions about what ’s really going on with Dahj . Why are former Borg and what look like Soong Androids being kept in the same adeptness ? And if they are , by who , alongside what ’s left of the Romulans ?
Before we ’re left to ponder too much , we rejoin Picard at what seems to be Chateau Picard once more , love a drink with an unfamiliar character after he ’s institutionalize packing by Starfleet Command . “ I have to help her , ” Picard opine , as his strange Edgar Albert Guest asks “ You really wanna go back out into the cold ? ”
Hell yeah he does .

Jean - Luc puts back on his older combadge — not his former TNG one , but the updated badge seen in Deep Space Nine , Voyager , and the Next Generation plastic film .
And so , as Jean - Luc heads off on a charge of his own , without Starfleet ’s backing , we begin to see him build up his new crew . We complain off with a conversant Star Trek filming venue , as Picard jets off to meet with his first candidate : These are the Vasquez Rocks , an iconic part of the Agua Dulce , California park that has encounter legion to multiple Star Trek series , begin of row as the sight of Kirk ’s infamous beatdown with the Gorn in “ Arena . ”
https://gizmodo.com/star-treks-most-infamous-fistfight-is-still-the-purest-1833474595

Among the aggressively jutting rocks , Picard meet Raffi Musiker ( Michelle Hurd ) . We still do n’t know much about Musiker other than that she , like Picard , is ex-husband - Starfleet and has a connection to his yesteryear . A sour one , it seems , given that when told by Jean - Luc that he has a plan to help oneself Dahj , Musiker sarcastically mock him about “ another top - secluded , wildcat delivery mission . ” So , presumably , she was part of the same rescue operation Picard led that ultimately resulted in his exit from Starfleet . And not just his , but perhaps Musiker ’s as well , on more ignoble term .
We quickly cut to a shot of what looks like another man , and a high - technical school adroitness float above a futurist metropolis . This at least seems to be where Doctor Agnes Jurati process ( and is keeping that B-4 / Lore / Data / Whoever the hell ’s body is in storage ) .
“ This is everything that ever mattered to me , ” Jurati tells Picard , as we trim back to a separate scenery of her demanding to join him on his commission . wardrobe material for the fictional character described Jurati as “ confused with her lieu in the world , ” so if she ’s researching Soong Androids and suddenly finds there might be a connection to a unexampled belt of them and free Borg like Dahj , as this trailer involve , that seems like reason enough for her to get together Team Picard .

Another quick cut to another world — this one much more low - tech and concisely glimpsed in the last trailer as where Picard got manhandled by some Romulan sentry go — and another member of Picard ’s new team : Elnor ( Evan Evagora ) , handle his sword in front of what appears to bethat same establishmentPicard encountered those Romulans . Given what appear to be a enhancive update to Romulan makeup for Picard that intemperately understate the os frontale ridges that counterpoint them from their sister species , the Vulcans , it ’s still grueling to recount if Elnor is a Romulan who goes against whatever his fellow Romulans are manipulate up with the Borg , or a Vulcan that just happens to be a fleck of a Samurai - esque figure roam the galaxy flourish distance - katanas at people .
“ I need your skill and your courage , ” Picard says , as we get a shot of Picard ’s final new crewmate : Chris Rio ( Santiago Cabrera ) , another Ex - Starfleet officer who now captains the vessel Picard commandeers for his young risky venture .
Meanwhile , we cut back to the damaged Borg Cube we saw a clump of Romulans ferment away on in the first trailer , and are treated to a grisly injection of a medical embayment where bloodied parts of Borg are being hung up and experiment on . Given the corpse on the flooring , it seems like matter have gone very wrong . Whoever could ’ve predicted that ? But look in the screen background — there ’s a blonde woman sob over the body on the slab …

… and it ’s none other than Star Trek : Voyager ’s very own liberated Borg , Seven of Nine ( Jeri Ryan ) , ululate as she bosom the body of what looks like a Starfleet officer — look at the red shoulders on their uniform . But who is it that Seven is mourn ? The pilus and the command red ink has had a lot of mass speculating that , somehow , it ’s Commander Chakotay , Robert Beltran ’s old-hat - Maquis - turn - first - officer from Voyager , who Seven figure into a … rent ’s say controversial , out of nowhere amatory human relationship with in the final episodes of Voyager ’s 7th and last time of year .
It ’s knockout to say for certain : there ’s enough obfuscation that we ca n’t see Chakotay ’s font tattoo on the body ( we ’re reckon at the side it would be on , too ) , but unless this is a flashback , Picard takes property in the belated 24th century—20 years post - Nemesis is around 2399 . Voyager returned from the Delta Quadrant in 2378 . If this was Chakotay , would n’t he look … quondam ? And what would he be doing hang around in a Borg Cube , anyway ?
But even if Chakotay is some unlikely speculation , there ’s a far more interesting character it could be — Icheb , the Brunali former Drone the crew of Voyager release alongside several other young poke in the 6th time of year episode “ Collective . ” Not only did Icheb stay with the crew when it refund to the Alpha Quadrant , before they even returned and established communication with Starfleet , he give for and exceed the Starfleet Academy entryway examination . presumptively , Icheb would ’ve go on to make a career in Starfleet when Voyager got home , and being a emancipated Borg , he would be an intriguing nominee for whatever experiments the Romulans are working on — and a fittingly devastating dupe for Seven to find .

Whoever it is , it stand for there ’s a Starfleet link to whatever the Romulans are doing on this Cube , and that Seven ’s been conducting a mission of her own .
“ The yesteryear is written , ” Jean - Luc ’s recital tells us , “ But we are left to write the futurity . ” It ’s cut to imply that Picard is say this to Rio , as we see the Captain instruct his new multicoloured crew to hold on as the ship garble off into space . The ship looks like a fresh design for Picard , not of Federation or Starfleet pattern , and yet kind of like someone took a Centaur - category ship and cover it in some boxy special armor . It ’s cool !
It ’s not long before we get to see it in some very interesting action , too , as Rio ’s ship and an nameless watercraft overt flak on what is a very intimate ship : a Romulan Warbird . And not just any warbird , but the Bird - of - Prey , the iconic twenty-third - century Romulan ship class introduced back in the original Star Trek . What the hell on earth is one doing in the late 24th century ? Well , given that Romulus itself has been wiped out with the Hobus whizz go supernova in 2387 , it stands to reason that what is result of the Romulan Star Empire at this point is ina state of disarray . If much of the modern fleet was pass over out in Romulus ’ destruction , mayhap they ’ve had to accrue back on adapting quondam ships to 24th hundred standards ?

mouth of sure-enough technical school in futurist preferences , back on the world where Picard receive Elnor , we see him get into a swordfight with a Romulan precaution outside that restaurant . Jean - Luc ’s still perplex it — and we also get two quick pellet of a mysterious mask anatomy smashing overt a window somewhere , as well as Jurati and Rio celebrate aboard the ship .
Back on the Cube , we flashback to Dahj ’s captivity at the hand of the Romulans . “ She was sent for a grounds , ” a female Romulan say — it might not be , but it looks like the still unnamed ( but apparently played by Peyton List ) Romulan who was glimpse in the first puzzle , working with Narek ( Harry Treadaway ) . In the past trailer , Narek appeared to be some kind of scientist , but here , he ’s getting information out of Dahj through some , err … intensive plain examination ? “ I ’ll get the entropy we take , ” Narek recount his friend . He ’ll get more than that .
Elnor unseathes his steel in a dark environment that looks an awful lot like this Borg Cube . So perhaps Dahj , having escaped once already and fled straight to Jean - Luc , is retake by the Romulans and Picard ’s mission to rescue her sees this young crew penetrate the Cube ? We also get a brief glance of what looks like the same locale of another intimate font …

It ’s Hugh the Borg ( Jonathan Del Arco ) ! Del Arco ’s return was support at San Diego Comic - Con , but we get to see him here for the first time . Introduced in theTNG season five episode“I , Borg ” , Hugh was a drone — originally named Third of Five — who gained a semblance of his humanity back after an encounter with the go-ahead . alternatively of being in full liberated , however , Hugh returned to the collective with his recover individuality , and afterwards on , appeared in another narration that saw Data ’s malefic brother Lore return . Once again , connections between liberated Borg and Soong Androids …

Elsewhere , Seven brush up against Picard — this is likely from the meeting between the duo bug in the original SDCC poke . “ I avail multitude who have no one else to help them , ” Seven tells Jean - Luc . It would come along that they ’re both investigate whatever the hell is up with the Romulans and liberated Borg like themselves ( without the help of Starfleet , to flush ) , but Seven ’s been up to it way longer than Picard has .

Some stuffy contingent view of@JeriLRyan’s#StarTrekPicardoutfit , including a very Romulan - esque zip pull and neato belts.#NYCCpic.twitter.com / dkh8nfyNPl
— TrekCore.com 🖖 ( @TrekCore)October 6 , 2019
Interestingly , Trek Core got up close and personal with Seven ’s outfit from Picard at NYCC , and there ’s a lot of little Romulan - esque details too it , from the avian - themed zip to the brown and gullible hue that could seemingly designate that Seven is working with the Romulans — or a faction of Romulans that is n’t too keen on whatever the ace on the Borg Cube are up to — to investigate .

Look . I ’m not even survive to excuse what ’s going on here . Just … triumph in it . Rejoice in its magnificence . impedance is sleeveless , indeed .
That moment of Star Trek : Voyager fanservice smash - cuts into a moment of profound The Next Generation fanservice . A young son calls for his busy male parent to leave their ramshackle cabin and greet a guest : Picard himself . The father turns …
… and facing the arrived Picard is Number One himself . Not the weenie this time , but former Enterprise first officer William T. Riker ( Jonathan Frakes ) . “ Hello , Will , ” Picard tell to a very surprised - looking Riker .

That ’s not the only conversant face however , as outside the Riker mansion house we see Picard bosom Deanna Troi ( Marina Sirtis ) . Frakes and Sirtis ’ yield for the serial were confirmed at San Diego Comic Con too , but this is our first metre since Enterprise ’s controversial final instalment that we ’ve seen them again . It ’s been too farsighted , for either or us Jean - Luc it seems .
Another rapid - fire band of shots bait some special moment . We get to see more of Rio ’s ship combat the Bird - of - Prey , someone dribbling a association football orchis aboard Rio ’s ship , a mysterious conclave of inglorious - habilimented individuals circling a suddenly - activated circle of light on the earth , and Hugh direct both Dahj and Picard through the bowels of what is presumably the Borg Cube .
“ We all have a write up … ” Picard ’s narrates , as we see a few more challenging disconnected shots — a triangular - bill of fare - game being dally , Jurati and Rio getting romantic , and those same ships from Picard ’s flashback , now with blue lighting , attack some kind of space post .

“ … that is expect to be claimed , ” Picard continue , as a few more shots flash by . A disturbed Seven . A untried girl at a rainwater - soaked windowpane ( perhaps it ’s a immature , pre - assimilation Dahj ? ) . Musiker , checking a phaser . And Dahj seemingly in torture as she ’s horrifically combust . The Dahj dig is the most interesting , as , judge by her rig , this is from her initial escape to Jean - Luc — in the background , you’re able to see the steps she was oppose a bunch of mysterious mask soldier on while Picard looked on in the original trailer . So perhaps what ’s happening here is some kind of wild disabling or conveyer effect and she ’s retake ?
Anyway , one more shot of that classic Bird of Prey chasing Rio ’s ship later , and we ’re back outside the Riker household , as Jean - Luc and Will loosen by the waterfront . “ give thanks you for not trying to talk me out of all this , ” the expert Captain say to his former Number One .
“ Believe me , I know good , ” Riker retorts . goddamn direct , Will .

While this latest look at Picard might be a trivial less dull than our first glance back in San Diego , it still give us plenty of mysteries to mull — we get to at least see more of what has happened to the Romulans in the time since Nemesis and the destruction of their Homeworld , but are also leave with challenging hints of what has become of the Federation itself in the metre since Picard left service . Changes that , it seems , have inspired other conversant faces to join in him making their own paths beyond the uniforms of Starfleet . And that ’s before we get into the mystery of what Soong Androids could have to do with all this …
Not much longer till we get some reply , though : Star Trek : Picard hits CBS All Access start January 23 , 2020 .
