When a person loses a loved one , you never quite get over it . But , eventually , youdo have to move fore . And that was one of the many dilemmas the cast and crew of Black Panther : Wakanda Forever had . What do you do in a subsequence to a moving-picture show whose star , Chadwick Boseman , tragically died ? Do you remould the part ? Do you even make the movie ?
io9 spoke with Wakanda Foreverproducer Nate Moore , who state those conversation befall — but that Marvel in all probability would have canceled the picture show entirely before in reality recasting Boseman ’s function as T’Challa . “ So then it was the conversation of , ‘ Okay , if we ’re go to do it , how do we do it respectfully , ’ ” Moore proceed . “ How do we do it in a path where we as storyteller also can get behind it and spend the next two - plus years of our life bringing something to life that we trust in ? That does n’t leave a bad mouthful in our mouthpiece ? And that ’s why recasting was never really a thoughtfulness , to be true . Let ’s use this energy and tell a story that could honestly assist us in the healing procedure , and potentially help audiences when they view it kind of get along to grip with what pass , and also see a path onward , and also see that it ’s not just about the going , it ’s about transformation and replacement . ”
All of which sound very sincere and lovely but , do n’t forget , this is Marvel Studios , a ship’s company known for making some of the most detailed sci - fi action cinema ever . How could Black Panther : Wakanda Forever balance that activeness with the story of loss ?

The whole operation was always a reconciliation act . It was always intentional that the film could watch all those box , so to speak . ”
