A few years back , io9 have filmmakerJohn Panton ’s short Line Signal , a history of a lone women ’s spectacularly flighty track ravel . Now he ’s back with Surveyor , another tarradiddle of a regular person who just occur to falter into some very unsettling environs .
As you might mistrust , the main character is a building surveyor who ’s summoned to retard an abandoned mansion for a guest who intends to revivify and repurpose the edifice . But the home , a crumbling architectural wonder , is n’t exactly a welcoming stead ( though it is the perfect setting for a ghost story ) . We ’ve all seen ghost - theater tales that set out like this , and Surveyor is so brusque that it does n’t spend much time fleshing out its story . What makes this moving-picture show so gratifying is its commitment to atmosphere — no small effort for a very brief story that learn place during the day — with eerie sounds and images that flicker through the anatomy , totter on the subliminal .
